16-year-old skier dies after falling on red run

A 16-year-old skier died in Courchevel Moriond in Savoie on Saturday morning February 12, after falling on a red slope, reports France Bleu Pays de Savoie.

The teenager was unconscious on the difficult level “Grandes bumps” track when the track service was called to the site for first aid. The French Air Rescue (SAF) came as reinforcements. The young skier was evacuated to Chambéry hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

“He was probably going fast, he would have lost control” explains the mayor of Courchevel, Jean-Yves Pachod, to France Bleu: “It is an immense sadness, it is a dramatic accident when we are in the middle of school holidays.“An investigation has been opened, under the authority of the Albertville prosecutor’s office, to try to understand the circumstances of this fatal fall.
