16-year-old boy shot and injured in Montreal

A 16-year-old boy was shot in the lower body Friday night in Montreal. The victim received treatment at a hospital center, where she went on her own, for a non-life-threatening injury.

The event occurred around 7 p.m. when the Montreal Police Service (SPVM) received a call about gunshots in the Villeray district, more specifically on rue des Érables.

Witnesses said four young men were on the sidewalk when a vehicle approached. A man got out of the car and came to chat with the four people, then a verbal argument broke out.

The suspect pulled out a gun and fired at one of the people on the sidewalk before returning to his vehicle to flee. It would be a small, dark-colored compact car and there might have been other occupants on board.

The victim and his friends fled on foot and “possibly” took refuge in a vehicle that took them to a hospital in the area, reports SPVM spokesperson Raphaël Bergeron.

Officers later met the injured man in hospital. “The latter does not collaborate in any way with the authorities, we are talking about a 16-year-old young man possibly known to police circles,” said Mr. Bergeron, adding that his friends are not collaborating either.

The Forensic Identification Section, SPVM investigators and the canine squad were on the scene to conduct the investigation.
