The Foreign Ministry announced the repatriation from Syrian jihadist prison camps of 35 minors and 16 mothers. The children have been welcomed in a complex in the Paris region and will be distributed among host families. The adults were handed over to the judicial authorities. Among them, Emily Konigaccused of recruiting for the Islamic State.

The operation was held discreetly in a camp for displaced people in northeastern Syria. The French authorities had a list of names: wives and children of jihadist fighters. 35 minors and 16 mothers aged 22 to 39 were repatriated to France. Among them, Emily Konig37 year and from Lorient. Left in 2012, she is accused of having recruited for the Islamic State group. Tuesday, July 5, she is indicted and placed in pre-trial detention.

This repatriation of mothers is a first. Until now, France only repatriated children and on a case-by-case basis. You have a certain number of countries, in particular European, I am thinking of Belgium, of neighboring countries, which ordered the repatriation of these families and therefore France found itself completely isolated“, declares Me Vincent Brengarthfamily and children’s lawyer in Syria. 126 children have already been transferred to France since 2016. There would remain more than 160 minors and about sixty mothers in the Syrian camps.
