16 people poisoned, around a hundred evacuated

A fire which broke out in a student residence in Caen in Calvados on the evening of Thursday March 21 poisoned 16 people, reports France Bleu Normandie. The alert was given around 7:30 p.m. when a significant release of smoke was spotted in the basement of this residence located in the station area, along the railway line.

When emergency services arrived, the hundred people present in the residence had already been evacuated. They were accommodated during the intervention in a room provided nearby. 16 people poisoned by smoke were examined by firefighters.

Six fire vehicles, four ambulances, five command vehicles and the Smur, mobile emergency and resuscitation service, were mobilized for the intervention. In total, 50 firefighters took part in the rescue. According to the findings, the fire, of electrical origin, spread through the technical shaft, specifies France Bleu Normandie.
