This winter, the Paris-Vienna train line in Austria reopened. The journey can take up to 16 hours, but the adventure begins the moment you climb into the car. In addition, the carbon footprint is almost irreproachable.
That evening, at the Gare de l’Est (Paris)travelers getting ready to board the train Paris-Vienna (Austria). We speak English here. The train and the controllers are Austrians, and we hurry, because the convoy is not waiting. The line reopened in winter, and today, 80% of places are occupied for a journey that lasts 16 hours. In one compartment, a happy group of friends have planned everything: fogger, crosswords and beers.
Between nostalgia for the night train and environmental awareness, the line Paris-Vienna increasingly attractive. Here, it’s the controller who prepares the food, and who serves the passengers using real dishes. Count around ten euros per dish. At midnight, the train fell asleep. In the early morning, Austria is still a bit far: the train crosses Germany. At 11 a.m., the train finally arrives in Vienna.
