15,000 hours of content, new features… What does “TF1+”, the new free streaming platform from TF1, look like?

It’s an explosive return for TF1. The channel is launching three new offers on Monday January 8: the show “Good morning !“, its first morning since 1990, the rebirth of the soap opera More beautiful life, even more beautiful and a new free streaming platform, TF1+, which replaces the old MyTF1.

The new platform looks a lot like the old one, with some new features: firstly 15,000 hours of content, which is equivalent to what Prime Video or Disney+ offer, but remains very far from the 40,000 hours of Netflix. There will also be all entertainment and information programs in replay, 200 films as well as 200 series in full, with longer availability. Until now, programs remained on the platform for a maximum of one week, now it is at least 30 days.

Another innovation, the functionality called “Synchro”, which is, according to TF1, a world first. The dedicated algorithm will offer a selection of content to watch together, based on each person’s profile. The feature will be operational from March.

You will have to wait a few more months before permanently uninstalling MyTF1 which is still working. The time that TF1+ is present on all media, which is not yet the case. For now, it is accessible on computers, smartphones, tablets and 95% of connected televisions, Orange and Bouygues boxes. At SFR, it will be in March. To date, there is still no agreement with Free and MyCanal.

A targeted advertising model on TF1+

As the platform is free, there will be advertising before and during each program except for those which last less than 15 minutes. Otherwise, a premium version exists for 5.99 euros per month. This premium version will give access to the three daily soap operas, Tomorrow belongs to us, Here it all begins And More beautiful life, even more beautiful, 48 hours in advance.

This free model will generate advertising revenue, the crux of the matter for a private channel. For the moment, the advertising market is much more substantial on a traditional channel but the trend will inevitably be reversed at one point or another. Digital video will end up bringing in more than a television program since viewing content on demand will become the majority. It already represents half of consumption for 15-24 year olds and 35% for 25-49 year olds. But at TF1, a digital viewer is more profitable than a linear viewer because the platform knows the profile of each user. Advertising can therefore be targeted and sold more expensively.
