More than 150 people were slightly injured on Wednesday morning in the suburbs of Barcelona (north-eastern Spain) when a train heading for this city hit the back of another train, indicated the services of emergency and the Spanish railway company.
A spokeswoman for the emergency services announced that 150 passengers had been “slightly injured”, and five others “moderately”.
“A collision occurred between two trains at 7:50 a.m. at the Montcada i Reixac-Manresa station, on the line towards Barcelona,” a spokesman for Renfe, the Spanish railway company, told AFP. stating that a train had “hit the rear of another” train.
An investigation has been opened by Renfe to determine the causes of the accident.
Questioned by national television, several passengers evacuated from the train which was hit at the rear said they felt “a big shock”.
Train traffic, which had been interrupted in both directions, was restored shortly after 10 a.m. local time.
Of the 155 people affected, “150 were slightly injured”, the condition of the other five being described as “moderate”.
