“150 buildings were affected” Friday March 31 in Buzançais (Indre), after the passage of the storm Mathis, indicated on franceinfo Marc Fleuret, president of the departmental council of Indre. “For the Greater Half”these are not “only tiles that flew away and that we were able to repair”says Marc Fleuret. “The other half, the houses are very affected, with openings in the roofs which pose a problem if it starts to rain.”

This Friday, strong gusts of wind caused roofs to fly away and trees to fall, the door of a store was broken, the cabin of a gas station was swept away, reports France Bleu Berry. A beam fell at the Immaculée Conception primary school. No child was injured, only a few scratches were found. The director of the establishment will set up a psychological cell for the children.

A reception desk set up at the town hall

In the town, where a dozen streets were affected, there was no “for the moment, only one relocation to be carried out”specifies on franceinfo the president of the departmental council of Indre. “It was very localized in Buzançais. We were afraid that it would slip to Issoudun, which is a bigger town. But the wind was not that far with this violence.”

To support the inhabitants of Buzançais, a reception service is set up on Saturday April 1 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the town hall, according to France Bleu Berry. A medico-psychological help will be offered to them. The national gendarmerie will also set up a permanence between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., depending on the prefecture. The Indre departmental council recalls that last May, when violent hailstorms hit the department, “people took advantage of the situation” with “slightly fraudulent canvassing with exorbitant prices to cover the roofs”. Marc Fleuret adds that this type of “quite powerful phenomena used to take place every three or four years. Now, it can be counted in months”.
