In 2008, the body of a jogger, Caroline Marcel, was found on the banks of the Loiret. The suspect in the murder of this 45-year-old woman was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention on Saturday January 20, announced the Nanterre prosecutor’s office. This case, 15 years old, was transmitted in 2022 to the national “cold cases” center.

On a key of the victim found in the water, the scientific police then detected a trace of DNA, thanks to new technologies. This trace made it possible to trace it back to a 34-year-old man, Stanislas A., who was working in Loiret at the time of the events and had been convicted of sexual assault in 2006.

Arrested and placed in police custody on Tuesday in Toulouse, the man was presented on Saturday afternoon to an investigating judge from this center dedicated to unresolved cases and was “keep silent” during his first appearance interrogation, the prosecution said in a press release. He was 18 years old at the time of the events.
