15 years after the fact | Adèle Sorella acquitted of murder of her two daughters

Their names were Sabrina and Amanda. Two sisters aged 8 and 9, died in mysterious circumstances. Their mother, Adèle Sorella, was acquitted on Monday at the end of her third murder trial due to the “weakness” of the evidence and the possibility that a member of the mafia could have killed the children.

This landmark decision by Judge Myriam Lachance puts an end to this legal saga – barring an improbable 4e trial – started 15 years ago. In the courtroom, emotion was palpable at the conclusion of the judgment. Relatives then hugged a tearful Adèle Sorella. Some even applauded the judge. After 15 years of torture, the mother was finally acquitted.

Amanda De Vito and Sabrina De Vito were found dead by their uncles on March 31, 2009 in Laval. They are side by side on the ground and still wearing their schoolgirl costumes. There are no signs of violence or forced entry. Science is confused: the deaths of the girls are inexplicable. The leading theory is death by asphyxiation in the hyperbaric chamber used by one of the girls.
