14,494 new cases of COVID-19 and too many hospitalizations for hospital capacity

Quebec reported 14,494 new cases of COVID-19 and 21 additional deaths on Tuesday.

The number of hospitalizations rose to 1,592, an increase of 196 from the previous day. Of these patients, 185 are in intensive care, four more than Monday. Thus, 1,407 people are hospitalized outside intensive care, exceeding alert level 3.

According to the Ministry of Health, the risk of hospitalization for an unvaccinated person is currently 8.2 times higher than for a person who received two doses of the vaccine.

A total of 46,999 samples were taken in the last 24 hours, of which 28.1% tested positive.

According to the National Institute of Public Health, 84.6% of the population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Among those 12 years and over, 91.7% have received at least one dose and 89.5% are adequately vaccinated.

The Ministry of Health indicates that 18% of the population received a booster dose.

People aged 55 to 59 can make an appointment for this third dose starting today and other age groups can do so during the month of January.
