1,300 ducks from the Deux-Sèvres department were slaughtered after the discovery of an outbreak of avian flu in a farm in La-Boissière-en-Gâtine, reports France Bleu Poitou on Tuesday evening February 1. This is the first time this year that a farm in the department has been affected by the Avian Influenza flu.

On February 27, the farm was put under surveillance following symptoms expressed by several animals. The flock was slaughtered the next day, Monday February 28, as were the other ducks from the three kilometers around. Analyzes carried out by ANSES’s national reference laboratory confirmed the infection of the livestock in La-Boissière-en-Gâtine and the highly pathogenic nature of the strain.

A week before, on Tuesday February 22, a first case had been detected in geese belonging to a resident of the town of Busseau (Deux-Sèvres).
