Thirteen teenagers are sent back to justice, almost two years after the violent attack on young Yuriy, 15, on the Beaugrenelle slab in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, franceinfo learned from a source close to the investigation on Tuesday, confirming a information from AFP.
Nine of them will be tried before the minors’ assize court and the other four before the children’s court which will rule on criminal matters, according to this source. In total, six are tried for attempted murder, the others for complicity, association of criminals and/or for violence.
The attack took place on January 15, 2021 around 6:30 p.m. CCTV images, authenticated by a source close to the franceinfo file, showed a dozen people hounding a young man on the ground, hitting him in particular with iron bars, before fleeing. The teenager, suffering from multiple fractures, had to be hospitalized at the Necker hospital.
The investigating judge wrote in his indictment order, which franceinfo was able to consult, that he “it appears from the investigations carried out that the facts are part of a context of rivalry between young individuals, residents of the 15th arrondissement of Paris, forming the RD4 band on the one hand, and that of the Vanves plateau on the other hand”. According to him, “it is established that the attack on Yuriy was an act of revenge in response to the attack suffered by [un membre d’une bande]“five days before.
The case had caused a great stir. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin had denounced “an attack of incredible savagery” on his Twitter account. Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti promised “no impunity” for abusers, on the same social network.
