The 13 people arrested on Monday March 12 are suspected of being part of or of having worked within the DZ Mafia clan, one of the two main drug trafficking groups which are bloodying Marseille. Among those arrested were three women and ten men, aged 15 to 25.

The suspects are being prosecuted for attempted homicide of a 43-year-old from Marseille, himself known for settling scores and drug trafficking. Mohamed T. was targeted in January 2023 in Spain in Empuriabrava, 40 kilometers from the French border. That day, he was driving his car when a Peugeot 308 blocked his way, a man got out and shot him in traffic.

Two recording studios burned, death threats from Telegram

The forty-year-old was hit five times in the chest but escaped. He had three bullets removed in Figueres in Spain, and went to Perpignan to have the last two projectiles removed. Mohamed T. then managed to escape before the police arrived.

His rivals did not stop there: two weeks later, in February, two recording studios he owned in Marseille were burned down. Death threats were also made against him on Telegram.

Investigators were able to trace the 13 suspects arrested thanks to video surveillance, cars found and telephone calls. This dragnet comes three days after the arrest in Morocco of the leader of the rival Marseille clan, the Yoda clan.
