13 departments in the south-east of France still placed in orange vigilance

Météo France also warns of the risk of thunderstorms in four departments of the North-West.

The heat is expected to continue this weekend. Météo France kept 13 departments in the south-eastern quarter of France on orange alert for the heat wave, in its 6 a.m. bulletin published on Friday July 22. In detail, the departments still affected by the heat wave are Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-Maritimes, Ardèche, Bouches-du-Rhône, Drôme, Gard, Isère, Rhône, Savoie, Haute-Savoie , the Var and the Vaucluse.

“This Friday afternoon, the maximum temperatures will generally be between 34 and 38°C with peaks of 39-40°C in the departments placed in orange vigilance”, warns Météo France. Hot weather expected to continue “until the beginning of the week in these regions even if the maximum temperatures may occasionally show a slight inflection”.

Météo France has also placed four departments in northwestern France on orange alert due to the risk of thunderstorms. These are Eure, Oise, Seine-Maritime and Somme. The, “fairly virulent thunderstorms will be accompanied by high intensities of precipitation (typically around 30 mm/h), sometimes hail as well as strong gusts of wind”justify the forecasters.
