125 information cooperative workers opted for voluntary departure

In anticipation of the end of an era at Coops de l’information, namely the publication of the last weekly printed editions on December 30, 125 workers, which represents approximately a third of the workforce, have joined the voluntary departure program put in place. place this summer.

“This operation was carried out with respect for the members who actively contributed to our transition to a cooperative and digital model. The Coops would like to wholeheartedly thank the members who are leaving the company,” the media group wrote in a press release.

The latter includes The right in Ottawa-Gatineau, The Nouvelliste in Trois-Rivières, The Daily in Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, The sun in Quebec, The gallery in Sherbrooke, The Voice of the East in Granby and The Aces of Infoa website dedicated to young people.

In 2024, readers looking for local news from different regions of Quebec will be able to continue to obtain information via the group’s websites and applications.

The end of the weekly printed editions was planned in the 2020 business plan. “Our local media are firmly established in their region, but like everywhere in the world, our readership is increasingly consulting our content on the Web and in our applications, which allow the immediacy required these days,” said Geneviève Rossier, general director of Coops de l’information.

At the end of March 2020, the six dailies of the Coops de l’information had drawn a line under their weekday paper newspapers, retaining only a weekly edition published on Saturdays. The measure, which was initially intended to be temporary in the context of the pandemic, was made permanent in the summer of 2020.

Only printed editions of Business Mag in the six markets will be retained.
