1,200 people were evacuated on the night of Monday August 8 to Tuesday August 9 due to the ongoing fire in Mostuéjouls, in Aveyron, the department prefecture said on Twitter on Tuesday morning. This is the same forest fire that broke out on Monday in the town of Massegros Causses Gorges, in Lozère, and which spread to Aveyron.
The fire covers 700 hectares of vegetation, three quarters of which are located in Aveyron, learned France Bleu Occitanie from the firefighters. At 9:30 p.m. Monday evening, “250 hectares” of forest had already been devastated, reported on franceinfo the mayor of Massegros Causses Gorges Jean-Paul Pourquier. “We are at the top of the Gorges du Tarn, on a very wooded plateau and therefore very difficult to access”had specified the chosen one.
The evacuations took place all night, between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. People were sheltered in rallying points, gymnasiums or community halls, in Rivière-sur-Tarn, Aguessac, Sévérac-le-Chateau or Millau. “No casualties or injuries are currently to be deplored”adds the prefecture.
Land and human resources are mobilized “significantly”. Additional air resources, three Canadair from the Gard, must be deployed as reinforcements from 7 a.m. in the morning. According to France Bleu Occitanie, 600 firefighters are on site to fight the fire.
