More than 1,200 children under the age of five have died in refugee camps in Sudan since May. Tens of thousands more are in danger.

The humanitarian situation has deteriorated sharply in recent months in refugee camps in southern Sudan. According to the High Commission for Refugees, 1,200 children under the age of 5 have died there since May 2022. The deaths are linked to a measles epidemic and malnutrition. According to UNICEF, several thousand newborns could die by the end of the year in Sudan, due to the civil war.

More than 3 million people have fled the fighting

More than 3 million people have had to flee the fighting. Mary Faolino had to flee her home in the suburbs of Khartoum (Sudan), wandering for several weeks, during which she almost lost her son. “We couldn’t leave the war zone. We couldn’t go back”, she confides. For five months, Sudan has been hit by civil war.
