(San Juan) Lawyers for Usain Bolt, one of the greatest sprinters in history, said Wednesday the athlete was missing more than $12.8 million from his account with a private investment firm in Jamaica, which authorities are investigating.
Attorney Linton P. Gordon provided The Associated Press with a copy of the letter sent to Stocks & Securities Limited, asking that the money be returned.
Gordon said Bolt’s account previously had 12.8 million, but now only shows $12,000.
Lawyers are threatening civil and criminal lawsuits if the money is not returned within 10 days.
Stocks & Securities Limited did not immediately respond to an interview request. On its website, the company has asked that its customers send any urgent requests to Jamaica’s Financial Services Commission, which is investigating the company.
The company said it discovered the fraud earlier this month, and several customers may have been robbed of millions of dollars.
Bolt announced his retirement in 2017. The Jamaican holds world records in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.
