On Monday, June 29, 2020, the Paris Criminal Court considered that the work of Penelope Fillon’s parliamentary assistant, alongside her husband, then her deputy Marc Joulaud, indeed constitutes a fictitious job which “did not meet any need and had no consistency”, according to the magistrates.
The former Prime Minister (2007-2012) of President Nicolas Sarkozy was sentenced to five years in prison, two of which were firm, along with ten years of ineligibility. His wife and his deputy receive a three-year suspended prison sentence. The condemned, who appealed against this judgment, must also reimburse the sums paid by the National Assembly, or nearly one million euros. Lawyers for the former tenant of the hotel in Matignon say they will provide new evidence to prove the innocence of their client.
The start of a scandal
