“1:15 p.m. on Sunday”. > The Fillon affair> Episodes 1 & 2 – France 2 – November 7, 2021

This four-part series of the magazine “1:15 p.m. Sunday“(Twitter, #1:15 p.m.), signed Stéphane Dépinoy and Clément Magnin, returns to the Fillon affair, while the appeal trial of the former Prime Minister in the case of the suspicion of fictitious jobs is being held from November 15 to 30, 2021. This political event judicial upset the scenario of the 2017 presidential election and finally brought Emmanuel Macron to the Elysee. On Monday, June 29, 2020, the Paris Criminal Court considered that the work of Penelope Fillon’s parliamentary assistant, alongside her husband, then her deputy Marc Joulaud, indeed constitutes a fictitious job which “did not meet any need and had no consistency”, according to the magistrates.

The former Prime Minister (2007-2012) of President Nicolas Sarkozy was sentenced to five years in prison, two of which were firm, along with ten years of ineligibility. His wife and his deputy receive a three-year suspended prison sentence. The condemned, who appealed against this judgment, must also reimburse the sums paid by the National Assembly, or nearly one million euros. Lawyers for the former tenant of the hotel in Matignon say they will provide new evidence to prove the innocence of their client.

The start of a scandal

The first two episodes of this series recall the facts which first saw the candidate for the nomination triumph in the primary of the right and the center organized on November 20 and 27, 2016. François Fillon eliminated Nicolas Sarkozy in the first round and beat Alain Juppé in the second… before sinking into legal trouble.

In 2016, he is in the shadow of the announced duel Sarkozy-Juppé, but its conservative and radical positioning allows it to foil all forecasts. Is he so sure of his victory that he overlooks certain alerts? While he is skiing, journalists from the Chained duck are working on explosive revelations: his wife would have benefited from a fictitious job as parliamentary assistant. This is the start of a scandal that will lead him to the bar of the court in February 2020.
