This new four-episode series from “1:15 p.m. on Sunday” offers an extraordinary story. That of two brothers, Edouard and André Michelin, who revolutionized the world of tires, but not only that.
The history of Michelin is a little more than an industrial success: it is a certain history of France, from the famous gastronomic guide to the most famous mascot in the world. It is one of the only French companies in the CAC 40 that has retained its head office at the heart of its historic activity in the middle of France, in Clermont-Ferrand.
This is where it all began, at the end of the 19th century. century, with two brothers, Edouard and André Michelin. The first is a genius inventor, the second a marketing whiz. In a few decades, they made a small factory on the verge of bankruptcy into the world leader in tires.
Bibendum conquers the world
To sell more tires, the Michelin brothers supported the development of the automobile. The road signs, the maps, the Michelin guide… it was André’s work. Edouard continued without him, and Bibendum set off to conquer the world.
The two founding brothers disappeared, their descendants had to rebuild everything after the Second World War. And the company gradually became number 1 in the world.
A series by Vincent Nguyen and Léa Barracco with Guillaume Dreujou and Anthony Santoro.
