This new four-episode series from “1:15 p.m. on Sunday” offers an extraordinary story. That of two brothers, Edouard and André Michelin, who revolutionized the world of tires, but not only that.

The history of Michelin is a little more than an industrial success: it is a certain history of France, from the famous gastronomic guide to the most famous mascot in the world. It is one of the only French companies in the CAC 40 that has retained its head office at the heart of its historic activity in the middle of France, in Clermont-Ferrand.

This is where it all began, at the end of the 19th century. century, with two brothers, Edouard and André Michelin. The first is a genius inventor, the second a marketing whiz. In a few decades, they made a small factory on the verge of bankruptcy into the world leader in tires.

Two brothers and a bicycle

These two brothers, starting from a punctured bicycle tire, revolutionized the history of tires. The Michelin brothers showed the strength of their duo: Edouard invented the removable tire, and André knew how to sell it.

Business is thriving but remains fragile: if sued, they could have seen their success come to a sudden halt. However, they found a way to bounce back and go even further.

A series by Vincent Nguyen and Léa Barracco with Guillaume Dreujou and Anthony Santoro.
