“1:15 p.m. on Saturday”. The heart doctor – France 2 – January 29, 2022

Afghan surgeon Najeebullah Bina is a member of the association La Chaîne de l’espoir, founded by Professor Alain Deloche, which “aims to strengthen health systems to give everyone, and in particular children, the same opportunities survival and development”.

In mid-August 2021, Kabul fell into the hands of the Taliban after the departure of the last American soldiers from Afghanistan, the surgeon was evacuated, like thousands of other civilians, thanks to American, French, Belgian or Canadian planes.

19 open-heart surgeries and children who were given hope

Having left in a hurry, Doctor Bina now lives in Europe, between Paris and Prague, where his wife and two daughters live… but it is in Bamako, Mali, that the magazine 1:15 p.m. on Saturday” (Twitter, #1:15 p.m.) found him in a downtown hospital, founded and equipped by the independent NGO which operates in 27 countries.

This portrait, signed Florian Le Moal and Nicolas Berthelot, highlights the action of the teams of the association which favors “care in the country of origin of the sick child when this is possible”: three intense weeks, 19 open-heart surgery and children who have been given hope.
