For more than two years, Fiona traveled with her 101-year-old grandmother in a motorhome. After her death, she recounts this trip in a book.
When she learned that her 101-year-old grandmother had just weeks to live, Fiona decided to give her one last trip. Dominique thus left her nursing home to travel in a motorhome. “She had always spoken to me about the Côte d’Azur, but she had never been there. I offered her Lourdes, because she was very religious, the Côte d’Azur and her native village in Italy”recounts Fiona Lauriol, author of 101 years old – granny goes on the mop.
During two and a half years of travel, with a few returns, the two women cover 15,000 km in southern Europe to Spain or Portugal. Dominique even celebrated her 103 years on the road, thwarting doctors’ predictions. “It showed me that you had to crunch life to the end, you shouldn’t tell yourself : ‘that’s it, they are too old'”, says Fiona Lauriol. She had made a promise to her grandmother, who died at 103: that of writing down their adventures.
