In full expansion, the nuclear sector will recruit 100,000 people over the next ten years. So, training in good nuclear practices is increasing.

Suit, gloves, helmet and protective visor: safety rules are very strict for professionals and students in training, in a fake nuclear power plant in Dunkirk (North). The exercise seems simple. A bolt needs to be tightened on a machine in the power plant. But that’s without counting on multiple dangers. “It could be irradiation, it could be contamination. It depends on the site conditions”indicates Florence Pirard, trainer at the Socotec central school.

70,000 people trained each year

Every year, 70,000 people are trained in safe nuclear practices. To be certified and access these controlled areas, you must complete an initial 11-day training course and carry out regular refreshers. The sector is booming and recruiting. The government is planning six new reactors from 2035. The training will make it possible to meet demand, estimated at 100,000 hires over ten years.
