In Poland, the largest demonstrations since the end of communism have denounced anti-abortion laws for three years. Six women died, pregnant with a malformed fetus, because they were refused medical termination of pregnancy.

Poland is a country divided between progressives and conservatives, in power since 2015, around essential questions such as the relationship with Europe, the rights of minorities, or even access to abortion, which has become almost impossible in the country. Last year, only 161 voluntary terminations of pregnancies were authorized in Poland, while 100,000 Polish women had to have an abortion illegally abroad or by having a pill delivered via the Internet.

The teams of “We, the Europeans“(X) have met the feminist association Federa, which listens to women who wish to have an abortion.

Thousands of women forced to circumvent the law

Marta Paczkowska is a member of the Federa association. She helps pregnant women find solutions for abortion, in a country where this is extremely difficult. “Today, in Poland, a woman can have an abortion in hospital only in two cases: when the woman is pregnant after rape or incest, or when her life is in danger. But even when it comes to rape or incest, to be authorized to have an abortion, it is complicated, because you have to obtain authorization from a prosecutor.“, she explains.

During this interview with Marta Paczkowska, the telephone rang. It is about a man, who explains that his “partner feels very bad“Doctors have detected”a multitude of physical and cerebral malformations“at the fetus she is carrying, but this is not a sufficient reason to have an abortion in Poland. Marta then suggests that he circumvent the law by redirecting him to pro-abortion psychiatric doctors who “will make a certificate which will prove that this pregnancy endangers mental health” of the future mother, thus allowing the abortion.
