“Drugs are everywhere in society”, assured Gérald Darmanin. But “police officers, gendarmes and services of the Ministry of the Interior” are equally “everywhere” to fight against trafficking, warned the Minister of the Interior on Sunday January 21, during a trip to Créteil. He went to this town of Val-de-Marne after the seizure by the police of 500 kg of cannabis.

According to the minister, who noted some 4,000 deal points throughout France in 2020, “1,000 deal points have been eliminated in three years thanks to the very impressive work of the police and gendarmerie.”

Figures communicated in the coming days

Gérald Darmanin declared that the year 2023 had been that of a “absolute record”, with “36,429 traffickers arrested on national territory and presented to the justice services”. He also announced that the figures for additional seizures carried out in the country would be communicated in the coming days.

THE “new drugs”like fentanyl, “increasing numbers are arriving on European territory and in France in particular”, has again noted the Minister of the Interior. “Amphetamines, ecstasys, more than 180% of seizures compared to the year before, so there is really a very significant increase in these synthetic drugs,” added Gérald Darmanin, before a trip to Antwerp, Belgium, for a meeting with his European counterparts on the theme of “the new European strategy for the fight against drugs”.
