100% of candidates for the specialty nurse practitioner title obtained their certificate

All of the 161 candidates for the title of specialized nurse practitioners (IPS) obtained their specialist certificate after the exam on May 6, the Order of Nurses of Quebec (OIIQ) announced on Wednesday.

“The overall success rate of 100% for this cohort is unmatched, as is the number of participations since 2021,” underlined the OIIQ, in a press release. This therefore brings the total number of IPS licensed to practice in Quebec to 1,685.

“Advanced nursing practice attracts new talents and their contribution will be essential for access to improved health care, to the greatest benefit of the Quebec population,” said Luc Mathieu, president of the professional order.

Unlike ordinary nurses, NPs can diagnose illnesses, determine what treatments to give patients and monitor pregnancies. Since December 7, they have also been able to provide end-of-life care.

In mid-May, the OIIQ revealed that 92% of future nurses who took the examination of the Order of Nurses of Quebec for the first time had passed it. Last September, only 69% of candidates for the profession obtained a passing grade on their first attempt at this test.

Further details will follow.
