1.5 million proxies registered before the first round

On the eve of the first round of the presidential election, 1.5 million proxies were registered this Saturday, the Interior Ministry announced in a press release. It was possible to deposit a power of attorney until this Saturday.

48.7 million voters are registered for the 2022 presidential election including 1.4 million residing outside France. First voters began on Saturday to go to the polls, overseas and abroad. Polling stations will open at 8 a.m. Sunday in mainland France. 95% of French people of voting age are registered on the electoral rolls and the number of registered voters increased by 856,000 people between May 2021 and March 2022, according to INSEE.

During the 2017 presidential election, 2.7 million registered voters applied for a proxy for at least one round.
