If the outlines of the exceptional taxation of the highest French incomes desired by the Barnier government are emerging, the details are still awaited, Thursday October 3.
The government reveals the first details of its exceptional taxation of high incomes, Thursday October 3. Only households earning more than 500,000 euros per year will be affected, or 0.3% of households, approximately 65,000 households. The measure was rather well received Thursday morning in Neuilly (Hauts-de-Seine), one of the richest cities in France. “It is completely normal for things to rebalance”estimates a passerby.
At what rate will these high incomes be taxed, by what means, and for how long? The Budget Ministry has not yet provided any response. But according to Anne-Sophie Alsif, economist, this is already a change in economic doctrine: “It’s a little outside of what President Macron said”notes the latter, which points to a desire to “preserve the middle class”. But the discussion of this measure in the National Assembly already promises to be eventful, including in the ranks of the presidential camp. The details should be revealed during the presentation of the 2025 budget, Wednesday October 9, to the Council of Ministers.
