Netflix envoie Julie et les fantômes à son repos éternel, annulant la comédie musicale surnaturelle après une seule saison, a appris TVLine.
Producteur exécutif Kenny Ortega confirmé la nouvelle tant attendue (et tant redoutée) via une publication Instagram samedi.
« Notre [Julie and the Phantoms] La famille veut envoyer notre amour et nos remerciements infinis à nos Fantoms du monde entier pour l’immense effusion d’amour et de soutien que vous nous avez témoignés depuis notre première », écrit Ortega. « Nous avons appris cette semaine que Netflix ne viendra pas nous chercher pour une autre saison. Bien que nos cœurs soient attristés, nous avançons avec une telle fierté pour ce que nous avons accompli en tant qu’équipe et la famille que nous avons construite en créant Julie.
Il conclut : « Nous espérons que vous continuerez à nous suivre alors que nous avançons dans notre travail et notre carrière. Bonnes vacances à vous tous. Based on the Brazilian television series Julie e os Fantasmas, Netflix’s adaptation starred Madison Reyes as Julie Molina, a teenage musician who accidentally summons the ghosts of dead rockers Luke (Charlie Gillespie), Alex (Owen Patrick Joyner) and Reggie (Jeremy Shada). The boys help Julie achieve her dreams, while she helps them fulfill their own unfinished music business.
The show’s cast also included Jadah Marie as Flynn, Julie’s best friend; Sacha Carlson Nick, Julie’s initial crush; Savannah May as Carrie, Julie’s nemesis; Cheyenne Jackson as Caleb, a jazzy ghost with nefarious intentions; Carlos Ponce as Ray, Julie’s father; and Booboo Stewart as Willie, another ghost who strikes up a romance with Alex.
“If we are lucky enough to get a second season, the ghosts would have a lot going on,” executive producers David Hoge and Dan Cross told TVLine in September. “They’ve always wanted to get their music out there for the world to hear. Like Luke always says, they want that connection with their audience. A number one album? Song at the top of the charts? Whatever it takes to be remembered for their music. But as you saw at the very end, there are still plenty of obstacles to get in their way. And now it seems there’s an ‘obstacle’ in the inner circle.”
The show’s first (and now only) season won Best Musical Moment at the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards, before picking up three Daytime Emmy Awards: Outstanding Original Song (for “Unsaid Emily”), Outstanding Costume Design and Multiple Camera Editing.
