NVIDIA and AMD are set to launch their new GPUs within the next couple of months, but current market trends, according to the Steam Survey, heavily favor NVIDIA. As the leading GPU manufacturers in the PC hardware space, NVIDIA manages to maintain its strong presence globally without much effort.
The RTX 30-series Ampere GPUs from NVIDIA continue to fly off the shelves, as observed in the latest rankings across various retail platforms. The Steam Hardware survey for October also confirms this trend. The GeForce RTX 3060 holds the top position, boasting a significant market share and reflecting a noteworthy increase over the past month—its highest in recent months.
Furthermore, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 remains the best-selling GPU on Amazon, consistently leading the rankings for several months. This popularity is supported by NVIDIA’s continued shipments to its partners. The availability of a 12 GB variant at a lower price than the 8 GB RTX 4060 makes it an appealing option for gamers on a budget.
The RTX 4060 is also performing well, both in desktop and laptop versions. Notably, the RTX 4060 laptop GPU has claimed the second position in the Steam’s most popular GPU rankings, with a notable increase in market share over the last month. Following closely is the desktop variant, succeeded by budget-friendly NVIDIA cards that fill out the top 10 most utilized GPUs on Steam globally. The success of the RTX 4060 laptop can be attributed to its comparable performance to the desktop variant, which is not the case with other high-end models.
Conversely, AMD GPUs trail far behind NVIDIA in terms of popularity, reflected in both retail sales and Steam survey results. This trend is also evident in specific European markets, where a recent report from @TechEpiphanyYT highlighted declining Radeon GPU sales at the German retailer Mindfactory. During the 44th week, AMD’s share dwindled, selling just 655 units compared to NVIDIA’s impressive 915 units.

As for Intel, its presence in the retail market has dramatically diminished, with zero Arc Alchemist discrete GPUs sold this week. The Arc GPU is notably absent from the Steam list, and there is only one model ranked 75th among the top 100 best-selling GPUs on Amazon. While hope remains for improvements with the upcoming Battlemage lineup, recent statements from Intel’s CEO raise concerns about the future of the company’s discrete GPUs.
